Brianna Alverson, 28, grew up in Stockton, Missouri, and graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a double major in International & Global Studies and Politics Science. As an UNAR intern, she worked directly under Larry DeBellis, helping him with various office administration tasks including responding to emails on behalf of UNAR and helping to coordinate a conference panel.

Mission-driven: I really enjoyed my time interning. It was my first time working within a non-profit and it was a great experience to work in an environment that was mission-driven instead of profit-driven. All of the people within UNAR were great people to work with, and I felt like I was contributing to an important part of the Rochester community.

A career boost: Having the time at UNAR under my belt did help make me more attractive for the types of jobs I wanted to pursue and ultimately led to my current job.  Interning made me more confident applying to different and the connections I made were with people who were happy to help me pursue my dreams.

In her chosen field: I graduated with a master’s in Applied Intelligence a little over a year ago and now I work as an analyst for the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL) doing a wide range of research.

A lot of my work focuses on intelligence methodologies, cyber threats, and influence operations, but I’ve also had the opportunity to work on a team providing open-source analysis to support the federal COVID-19 response since shortly after the pandemic began.
